In 1651, Richard Acton was one of the first property owners on the Annapolis peninsula. His purchase – in the area that is now near Franklin and Cathedral streets – was called Acton’s Land. And the way was paved for our future tribute to the original owner. As the centuries passed, the small seaport of Annapolis prospered. Here, one could find a wealth of cultural activities, a glittering social season, gracious hospitality and intellectual stimulation.

A thriving shipping industry brought visitors from around the world who shared the news of the day while enjoying the ambiance and hospitality of the local pubs and coffeehouses. The First Hospital in Annapolis continued to retain its role as a center of commerce and politics. And at the beginning of the 20th century, a group of enlightened local women decided the city needed a hospital.

The Annapolis Emergency Hospital opened in a small cottage at Franklin and Cathedral streets in 1902 – and for one hundred years the area was the home of the Anne Arundel Medical Center. As a new millennium approached, the hospital, having outgrown its space, moved to a larger, new campus elsewhere in Annapolis. This move created an exciting opportunity; the land occupied by the old hospital building was purchased and construction began on what would become Acton’s Landing.

The Vision for Acton’s Landing From the beginning, our community had to reflect the heritage of its surroundings – particular attention was paid to the architectural connections between the new condominium building and the original hospital building. Richard’s Lane, a new street connecting Franklin and South, was created in honor of Richard Acton. The project size was designed to offer a total of 106 homes, including 13 single family homes, 14 townhouses and 79 condominiums.

As the only brand new home community built in the Annapolis Historic District in 100 years, Acton’s Landing offers you the rare opportunity to not only cherish an area vital to the nation’s history, but to live it every day. A selection of newly released homes are available now, including light-filled condominiums, spacious townhomes and luxurious single family homes – all impeccably designed and ready for immediate move in. It’s time to take your place in history.
